The School of Architecture Library supports the research and
teaching needs of the school and is part of the larger Main Library.
Our holdings specialize in modern and contemporary architecture and design, the history and
theory of architecture, urban studies, landscape architecture, preservation, urban design,
engineering, arts and planning.
The collection constitutes approximately 3605 volumes. The library subscribes domestic and
international journals and magazines. The library has dedicated reference areas, reading
zones.
MSOA Library house a valuable resource for architects, students of architecture, and anyone else
interested in the field. It consists of 4 International prism Journals, 15 National Prism
Journals and 13 Apex Journals Meenakshi Architecture College library also provide access to
online databases that contain even more information, making them an indispensable tool for
research it also has spaces for studying and working, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in
the subject matter. The architecture library is a crucial part of the architectural community,
providing access to a wealth of knowledge and resources that assist in the growth and
development of the profession.
Architecture college CADD labs are essential learning spaces for aspiring architects. These computer labs are equipped with the latest software and hardware to facilitate the development of design skills and accuracy. The labs provide access to 2D and 3D modeling software, Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, helping students to hone their technical skills necessary to create virtual models. Additionally, architecture college CADD labs offer a space for students to collaborate, critique, and improve their work through constructive feedback. With these resources and a conducive learning environment, students can graduate with the technical ability, critical thinking, and software expertise needed to become successful architects. Meenakshi Architecture college computer lab consists of high configuration computer systems exclusively for B.Arch students here students are taught to use the necessary software's required for the program datum. The Computer CADD lab of Meenakshi also has A1 Plotter, A3 and A4 printers with LCD support system for students betterment.
Meenakshi Architecture College teaches students climate responsive design with the help of tools like Barometer, Solarimeter, Anemometer, Wind vane, Rain Gauge and sun shine recorder which are crucial spaces for studying the impact of climate on architectural design. These instruments and tools allow students to measure and analyze different climatic factors such as temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind speed, and direction. By collecting data and conducting experiments in these labs, students can gain a deeper understanding of how climate influences building performance and energy efficiency. They can also learn to integrate sustainable design strategies that optimize the use of natural resources and create comfortable indoor environments. It provide students with hands-on experience and knowledge necessary to design buildings that respond effectively to their local climates, promoting sustainable and resilient architectural practices.
Meenakshi college acoustics labs are dedicated spaces where students can study and analyze the impact of sound on architectural design. The labs is equipped with sound measuring instruments and specialized software that allow students to measure and manipulate different acoustic parameters such as reverberation time, sound insulation, and speech intelligibility. By conducting experiments and simulations in these labs, students can develop an understanding of how sound behaves in various spaces and learn how to design buildings with optimal acoustic performance. They also have the opportunity to explore soundproofing techniques and acoustic treatments that enhance the quality of indoor environments. Acoustics labs provide students with practical experience and knowledge necessary to create spaces that are comfortable, functional, and acoustically pleasant.
The architecture college material museum is an invaluable resource
for aspiring architects, designers, and students.
This specialized lab is a treasure trove of different architectural materials, showcasing a wide
range of options and possibilities for construction and design. The museum houses a
comprehensive collection of building materials, ranging from traditional materials like wood,
brick, and stone to modern and innovative materials like glass, steel, and sustainable
composites. Each material is carefully curated and displayed, providing students with a hands-on
opportunity to examine and understand their properties, textures, colours and potential
applications.
The material museum serves as a source of inspiration and knowledge, allowing students to
explore the characteristics and potential of different materials, enabling them to make informed
decisions when it comes to designing sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing
structures. With the ability to see, touch, and analyse real material samples, students can gain
a deeper understanding of how materials behave, interact, and respond to various environmental
conditions.
Meenakshi architecture college model making lab is a specialized
space designed to facilitate the creation of physical models of architectural designs. These
labs are equipped with a variety of tools and machines that enable students to build different
types of models, such as massing models, study models, and presentation models.
The lab typically features a range of tools, including a electric pottery wheel, carpentry
tools, thermocol cutter, wooden brick models, etc that allows students to create models with a
high degree of precision and accuracy. The lab also provides students with access to various
hand tools and materials such as foam boards, chipboards, and balsa wood to help them create
models that are more detailed and accurate.
As a part of architecture education Meenakshi school of Architecture MSOA provides the opportunity for the students to lay career in planning and urban design by providing instruments like Theodolite, Dumpy Level, Survey Plane Table, Ranging Rods, Levelling staff / Cross staff, Chains, Surveying tapes /Measuring tape and Surveyor compass to conduct physical survey of land parcels and increase knowledge in the field of land surveying.
The BIM lab of the architecture department is a silo for master degree candidates (M.Arch) to learn about BIM (Building Information Modelling) and GIS (Geographical Information System) for achieving energy efficient and sustainable designs in there design problem.
